The mission of the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre is to encourage and promote an appreciation for the visual arts in St. Thomas and Elgin County through a variety of exhibitions and educational programs and through the preservation of a permanent collection.
The St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre is dedicate to presenting a historical and contemporary visual art program by local, regional, national and international artists: facilitating the development of emerging artists; providing diverse art educational programming; acquiring cultural significant works of art and caring of the management of a permanent collection.
The role of the Art Centre is to provide leadership and direction in the visual arts for the citizenry and visual arts related organizations with St. Thomas and Elgin County and provide access to the collection for research and exhibition development by organization from across Canada. The Art Centre pay artists in accordance with CARFAC guidelines as recommended through CMA and CAMDO.
The Art Centre has experienced an exceptional year of growth in 2007. All sectors of the centre reported significant development. The evolution of the institution is integral to its survival with an ever changing community. Through the expansion of school and fine art programming, enhanced exhibitions and the commitment to the growth of the Art Centre's permanent collection, the Art Centre has positioned itself to adapt, respond, and develop in collaboration with the communities that it serves.
