Education/Administration Assistant

The St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Center is seeking a friendly, energetic, and organized
individual interested in gaining valuable experience in fine arts education and administration. Working in a creative and vibrant setting, the individual will assist in a variety of duties to ensure the delivery of the STEPAC educational programs.

 

Duties include working with the Program Director to deliver our educational based school tours including the hands-on activities.

Working with volunteers in the classroom while delivering the program.

 

Daily administrative tasks also include managing class registrations, materials, studio prep, planning, and coordinating programs under the guidance of the Program Director.

 

This position also includes working with the Executive Director/ Curator to assist in gallery attendant duties at reception including registration of programs, membership, gift shop and other duties.

 

About the STEPAC :

The only Public Art Centre in St. Thomas and Elgin County, the St. Thomas-Elgin Public Art Centre (STEPAC) is a charitable non-profit corporation supported by it’s members, grants and fundraising. In operation since 1969, the Public Art Centre presents curated exhibitions by local, regional, national and international artists,  maintains a permanent collection of over 2000 works, and presents innovative and diverse programming for children, youth, and adults. Since 1969, the Gallery has been located in 301 Talbot Street , and has evolved into a well-regarded professional contemporary art centre that was awarded the Impact Award -“Unsung Heroes” by the St. Thomas District Chamber of Commerce, in 2019.


Description of tasks:

· Assisting in the coordinating of the education and public programs, including managing registrations, event coordination, program development, materials management, volunteer management, and delivery of programs

· Preparing materials and setting up the gallery for education visits and workshops

· assisting in the facilitation of workshops

· Assisting in public programs for holidays and special events

· Evaluating individual programs upon completion to provide feedback on improvement

· Gallery attendant responsibilities including answering questions from the public, clerical duties, database management.


Candidate Profile:

· A recent graduate from studies in Visual Arts, Art History, Arts Education, Arts Management, or a related field.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentation experience

· Excellent organization and research skills

· Ability to multi-task and work well independently and within a team

· Experience working within an educational and creative setting

· An enthusiastic and energetic communication style

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Proficiency in the use of Standard Office software as well as communications/document sharing software (such as Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive)

· Flexibility in work schedule

· Familiarity with the Ontario Curriculum is an asset
